What is a corn bulb?

Corn bulbs, also referred to as corn cob lamps, get their name from their resemblance to an ear of corn. LED corn light bulbs use an assembly of individual diodes arranged on a metal structure.

LED corn bulbs are a great, energy efficient alternative to traditional HID and metal halide or high pressure sodium bulbs. LED options work well providing high lumen levels at lower wattages than traditional fixtures. This means LED corn bulbs use less energy to provide the same brightness!

They work well brightening commercial areas, industrial buildings, or parking lots. You can often find them used in high bay fixtures, post top lights, shoebox area lights, and security lighting.

How long do LED corn bulbs last?

LED lights can last much longer than traditional fixtures. A metal halide lamp may last between 6,000 to 15,000 rated life hours depending on the bulb. EnVision LED Lighting offers LED corn bulbs with 50,000 rated life hours. If operated 24 hours a day, this means the bulb could last over 5 years!

Do LED corn bulbs get hot?

LEDs produce heat but not as much as incandescent or high-pressure sodium bulbs. A heat sink absorbs the heat produced by the LEDs and dissipates it into the air. This helps the bulb stay cool. They do not use as much energy as other types of bulbs which means they produce less heat.

Because of they require a heat sink to dissipate heat, not every LED bulb can work in a fully enclosed fixture. Enclosed fixtures may trap heat which can cause the bulb to overheat and shorten the lifespan.

EnVision LED Lighting offers corn bulbs suitable for use in fully enclosed fixtures.

What base types do they offer?

LED corn bulbs typically use a screw-in base, either an E26 or E39 base. The ‘E’ stands for Edison while the number following it indicates the diameter of the base in millimeters. An E26 medium base measures around 1 inch in diameter. An E39 large or mogul base measures around 1.5 inches.

What is selectable CCT?

Selectable CCT allows the user to adjust the color temperature of the fixture from pre-set options. Selectable CCT allows you to take the guesswork out of choosing the right color temperature for the space.

EnVision LED offers corn bulb options that allow you to select a color temperature from their three choices: 3000K, 4000K, or 5000K. 3000K offers a soft, warm white suitable for residential applications. 4000K emits a neutral white light suitable for task lighting. They often see use in offices. 5000K provides a daylight white light that works well brightening areas like industrial and commercial spaces.
