MRCOOL DIY Series: 4th vs 5th Generation

The 5th Gen DIY uses the industry leading R-454B refrigerant. This differs from the R-410A refrigerant that the 4th Generation used. R-410A refrigerant has extremely high global warming potential (GWP).

The R-454B refrigerant is the newest refrigerant in most HVAC systems. Newer systems use this refrigerant because it has a lower climate impact than previous refrigerants. By using the R-454B refrigerant, the 5th Gen decreases the potential of releasing GWP by about 80%. The complete system can also run with higher efficiency using R-454B refrigerant.

With the recent improvements and changes, the SEER2 rating for the 5th Gen Series increased compared to previous models. With a 23.6 SEER2 rating, MrCool's new DIYs have better performance and greater energy efficiency. With a 5th Gen unit, you'll spend less on energy year-to-year compared to older models.

5th Generation Mini Splits achieve a high HSPF2-4 rating of 11.5. Most air conditioners with a HSPF2-4 of a 9 or higher are highly efficient products. This makes the 5th Gen Mini Splits some of the most efficient mini splits on the market.

The improvements in the MRCOOL 5th Gen Series have allowed the system to increase the number of zones it can reach. Now the 5th Gen can reach up to 6 zones while the 4th Gen can only reach 5 zones. More zones means more flexibility.

Thanks to expanded ports, new DIY multi-zone condensers can support 3 to 6 indoor units.

MRCOOL is also adding new expanded system sizes to the 5th Generation Series. Current MrCool DIYs have two new system sizes to choose from. This includes new single-zone or multi-zone DIY 9K BTU models. Secondly, MrCool now offers a 6K BTU air handler for wall mounted, multi-zone installations.

One of the more exciting features of the 5th Generation Series is enhanced controls. The MrCool SmartHVAC app allows you to control your mini split systems from a phone and connect it to Google Assistant or Amazon's Alexa. Another feature of the 5th Generation is the MRCOOL DIYPro Cable. The DIYPro cable creates better communication which increases performance over the 4th Gen Series.
