How to connect emergency light?

Connecting emergency lights can be simple if you follow the steps correctly.

  • To begin, you should analyze areas that will need emergency lighting. For example, areas with high traffic like stairwells, corridors, and large open spaces. Check the existing wiring to see if the wires can support the addition of emergency lights. You may need new electrical work done if the existing wires cannot support the emergency lights.
  • Once you have chosen a spot for the emergency lights, you can start to wire the lights. For the wiring, you should turn off the power to prevent an electrical shock. Gather tools like wire strippers, screwdrivers, electrical tape, and connectors. Connect the emergency lights to the main power supply. Then strip the ends of three wires (Live, Neutral, and Earth) and connect them to the corresponding light units.
  • When the wires are connected, secure the connections tightly so they do not come loose. Then mount the emergency light by using the correct tools. Make sure the emergency light is stable and follow code compliance rules.
  • When everything is mounted, you can turn the power back on and test to ensure they are working properly. Make sure to also test the light by pressing the test button to simulate a power outage.

Disclaimer: If you are not a licensed professional in electrical wiring, HomElectrical does not recommend DIY installation. Always hire an electrician for any, and all, electrical needs.

How to change exit light bulbs?

To change an exit light bulb, gather the materials below:

  • Replacement Light bulb
  • Ladder
  • Screwdriver
  • Gloves
  • Then, open the emergency exit light cover by gently pulling the gap on the side of the light.

You can then remove the bulb and replace it with a new one. It is common for you to insert the light and to hear a clicking sound to let you know the light is in place.

After replacing the bulb, place the cover back on the light to complete the replacement.
