What is an LED downlight driver and what is it used for?

Since very few LED lights use an on and off switch, LED drivers are put in place to conserve energy and prevent damage to the LED’s.  This allows an LED bulb to become dimmable.  For an LED bulb to perform its best, they require LED drivers to operate more efficiently and reliably, while ensuring the lifespan of the bulb. What is IC recessed lighting?

IC is a rating on a fixture. IC stands for Insulated Contact. When a recessed light is installed within a light source, it generates heat. An IC or Insulated Contacts rated fixture prevents the fixture from overheating and potentially starting a fire or shorting out. Heat is the number factor to cause a bulb to fail or short out so an IC rated fixture is always a good idea.

What is the difference between Satco can lighting and Satco recessed lighting?

A can light is a recessed light fixture. Can lights get their name from their exterior housing that resembles a can. They are typically used in areas where there is not enough space to use a hanging fixture. Recessed lighting is a term for lighting fixtures that fit into hollow openings in the ceiling.

How many Satco recessed lights can I have on one circuit?

The number of recessed lights you can have on one circuit is determined by two factors.

  1. First, you need to check the circuit breaker to see what the maximum load output is.
  2. Second, you need to check your fixture to make sure that is doesn’t exceed the limit of your circuit breaker.

Different areas have different codes so its always best to consult your local electrical technician if you are not sure how to determine this.
