The installation of outdoor flush lights should always be done by a licensed electrician. Below are some important things electricians should remember when installing outdoor flush lights.

• Check the local codes for outdoor lighting
• Only use materials that have an Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) approval
• Use a conduit to protect the cable when exposed above the ground
• Always use weatherproof equipment for all outside wiring installation

When installing the lights, electricians should follow the below steps:

1. Turn off the power to the house fuse box or circuit breaker.
2. Remove the old light fixture. Disconnect the wires behind the fixture and carefully pull the fixture away. This should leave a white, black and ground wire exposed.
3. Place the mounting bracket from the new flush mount to the electrical box. Secure the fixture using the screws provided.
4. Wrap the ground wire from the electrical box around the green ground screw on the mounting bracket and tighten the screw.
5. Hold the two bare wire ends to each other, then twist the wire both connecting the black wire from the electrical box to the black wire from the flush mount. Repeat this step for the white wires from both the electrical box and the flush mount fixture.
6. Then wrap the electrical tape around each of the two connections to completely seal them.
7. Tuck the wiring into the electrical box while mounting the fixture to the bracket. The flush mount should sit against the surface and cover the box completely. Fasten the light onto the fixture using the screws that came with the new fixture.
8. Switch on the electricity at the fuse box or circuit breaker and see if the light works.
