How to change the bulb in a ceiling fan?

Changing light bulbs in a ceiling fan is not complicated. However, it does take time and patience to change the bulb.

Before changing the bulbs, grab a pair of work gloves to wear as well as safety glasses. Once you have gloves and safety glasses, you can begin changing the bulbs.

First, twist the ceiling fan’s cover counterclockwise. This loosens the cover and allows you to take it down. If it is stuck, gently tap on the edge of fan.

After removing the cover, unscrew the old bulb.

Then, install a new bulb in the same place. Make sure the bulb has the same wattage as the old one.

Place the cover back on and twist it counterclockwise until there is resistance.

How do you oil a ceiling fan?

  • To oil your fan, first you need to find the oil hole. Oil holes are typically located on the top of the motor. They are also labeled to help you know where to place the oil.
  • Once you find the oil hole, use a pipe cleaner to see the oil level. If the pipe cleaner has oil on it, then you do not need to add any oil. However, when the pipe cleaner is dry, add oil to the oil hole.
  • If you need to add oil, we recommend cleaning the oil hole. The buildup of dust and other debris can stick to the oil and negatively impact the motor. To clean the oil hole, wipe the oil hole and motor with warm water.
  • After the area is clean, pour about 1 to 2 ounces of oil into the hole. It is important to check the oil level to ensure enough oil has been placed in the hole.
  • Test the fan by moving it with your hand and checking the oil reservoir constantly to see if the pipe cleaner comes with oil on it.

Before oiling your fan, it is important to check if there is an oil hole. Many modern ceiling fans are sealed and do not have oil holes. If you are experiencing noise from the fan, we recommend reading the fan’s manual for guidance. The manual will provide information about whether you should replace the bearings or not.
