How to mount a ceiling fan?

To mount a ceiling fan, you must hire an electrician to prevent potential hazards.

Once the electrician is hired, they will follow special steps to correctly mount the ceiling fan.

First, they will clear the work area and gather all the necessary materials. They must remove any excess materials for a clean work area.

Then, the electrician will examine the ceiling before the installation. This ensures enough space exists for the ceiling fan and that the light switch can be wired correctly.

After inspecting the wall, the electrician will turn off the circuit to the ceiling fan.

Then, they will install the junction box and the mounting bracket on the wall.

Next, the electrician will install the down rod to the ceiling.

At the end of the installation, the electrician will add the ceiling fan and the ceiling fan blades.

How to wire a ceiling fan?

We do not encourage DIY wiring and instead recommend hiring an electrician to wire your ceiling fan.

Below are the steps the electrician will follow to wire the ceiling fans:

  • Connect the green wire from the ceiling fan to the ground wire from the light switch.
  • Connect the white wire to the neutral wire in the wall and secure it with a wire nut.
  • Then, connect the red wire in the ceiling to the black wire that is from the light kit. Once those are connected, take the black wire in the ceiling and connect it to the black wire in the fan.
  • Once the wires are connected, tuck the wires back into the box.
  • Turn the power back on and test to see if the fan is working.
