How to balance a fan?
To help balance a fan, use a ceiling fan balancing kit. The ceiling fan balancing kit will have a plastic clip, weights, and adhesive. After collecting the balancing kit, you can follow these simple steps below.
- Turn off the fan before taking the next steps.
- Check the fan for potential dust build-up.
- Remove any dust you see from the top, sides, and bottom of the fan blades.
- Turn the fan back on and check if removing the build-up fixed the issue. If not, then one of the blades is likely to be out of alignment.
- Turn the fan back off if the fan is still not balanced.
- Check the screws on the fan and ensure they are screwed tightly.
- Measure the blade alignment.
- Using a ruler, measure the distance between the end of the blade and the ceiling. Make sure to repeat this step for each blade.
- Label the blades to help keep track of the blade you are testing.
- From the balancing kit, take the balancing clip and place it on the top edge of the blade. The clip should be as close to the center to ensure a more accurate test.
- Turn the fan on and see if the fan is balanced. Repeat this step until you find the blade that needs alignment.
- The blade that is affected the most is the one that will need to be weighted.
- Once you find the blade that is out of alignment, find the best placement for the weight.
- Move the clip up and down the fan to find the best place to balance the fan.
- Weigh the fan
- After you find the best spot, place the stick-on adhesive on the fan. The stick-on adhesive is weighted so it will balance the fan and keep it from wobbling.
