Hammond Autotransformers

An autotransformer is a type of electrical transformer that has one coil to adjust voltage. This means there is not isolation between the primary and secondary circuits. Autotransformers transfer electrical energy from one circuit to another while changing the voltage. The primary and secondary windings are electrically connected.

The main difference between an autotransformer and a transformer is that the autotransformer has only one winding while the transformer has two separate windings. Another difference is that the autotransformer uses self-induction while the transformer uses mutual induction. Autotransformers tend to be smaller in size while transformers tend to be larger. It is also important to note that the autotransformer is used as a voltage regulator while the transformer is used to move the voltage up and down on the power grid.
