How to change a ceiling light fixture?
Changing an LED ceiling light fixture can be a simple process if you are a licensed electrician. However, if you do not have the necessary skills, it is important to hire a licensed electrician to change the light fixture. The steps to change the ceiling light are as follows:
Turn the power off
- Open the circuit panel and locate the circuit breaker for the room. Switch the circuit to the off position.
Remove the old light fixture
- Remove the cover from the current light fixture. Then, disconnect the wires from the wall. After the wires are disconnected, remove the base from the wall.
- Ensure the electrical box is fully attached to the building structure.
Wire the new light fixture
- With the new light fixture, follow the instruction manual to match the wires to your home’s existing wires. In most cases, you’ll find black wires connecting with black, white wires to white and ground wires to a grounding screw.
- Secure the wires into the electrical box and connect the base of the light fixture to the electrical box.
Install bulbs and trim to the fixture
- Once the new light fixture is installed, add the correct bulbs and trim to the fixture. After the bulb and trim are attached, this will complete the replacement of an LED ceiling light fixture.
