Where should I store Cable Ties?

Because cable ties are mostly made from nylon, it is recommended that they be stored in a cool and dry area. This will keep the ties from disintegrating and oxidizing. Skinny versions of nylon are going to be more susceptible to bending. So be careful when applying pressure as it can misshape the cable tie.

What is a Cable Tie Used For?

Cable Ties, also known as Zip Ties, have a variety of uses.  In wiring, cable ties are used for both indoor and outdoor applications to organize, group, or bundle wires together.  Their main function works like a strap to handle large or small bundles.  Each tie features “teeth” that serve as a locking mechanism to prevent them from coming loose or pulling out the wires they are holding together.  A black cable tie is the only color to feature UV protection.

Are Cable Ties Reusable?

No!  If the Cable Tie does not state that it is reusable, then it can only be used once.  Reusable Cable Ties or Zip Ties are made from a flexible nylon that allows you to unlock the Teeth as often as you need.  However, in some cases a Cable Tie can be unlocked by sticking a pin into the locking mechanism and releasing the teeth from the original position.
