How does a pool heat pump work?

A pool heat pump works by transferring heat from the surrounding air to the pool water.

  1. A fan pulls in air, directing it to an evaporator coil.
  2. A liquid refrigerant inside the coil absorbs the heat from the air and is turned into gas.
  3. The gas is compressed, increasing the temperature, and it flows into a heat exchanger. Water is pumped through the other side of the heat exchanger at the same time. As they pass through, the heat is exchanged into the water, cooling the gas back into a liquid.

This process is repeated to maintain the temperature of the pool.

Why isn’t my pool pump priming?

The pool pump not priming could be a result of several reasons. Below are some of the most common factors.

  • Check for leaks.
  • Clean the skimmer and pump baskets.
  • Check the pool’s water level.
  • Turn off the pool pump and repeat the process of priming.

Ensure that the lid to the pump is sealed tightly and all lines are clear.
