What is the difference between a PAR30 and BR30 bulb?

A PAR30 and a BR30 lightbulb are the same size and share a lot of similarities; though, they are used quite differently. A PAR30 light bulb (Parabolic Aluminized Reflector) is commonly used in spot light applications where concentrated light is needed, such as museum displays or retail store display cases.  BR30 (Bulged Reflector) bulbs are better suited for areas that require light to cover a broad area.  LED BR30 bulbs are typically used for recessed lighting fixtures in kitchens and offices.

Do all PAR30 bulbs have the same dimensions?

All PAR30 Bulbs are the same size indicated by the number 30 which refers to its diameter measured in eights (3.75 inches). These light bulbs are quite versatile and can be used in many different size and  beam angle options depending on your lighting needs:

  • Narrow spot: less than 10 degree beam angle
  • Single Spot: 15 degree beam angle
  • Narrow Flood: 25 degree beam angle
  • Flood: 36 Degree Beam Angle
  • Wide Flood: Greater than 50 degree beam angle

They also come in a variety of color temperature and wattages as well.

Where are LED PAR30 bulbs typically used?

LED PAR30 bulbs are designed for both indoor and outdoor use and come with a UL wet location rating. LED PAR30 bulbs are most commonly used in areas that require a direct and focused light because they offer such a wide range in color temperatures and are energy efficient. LED PAR30 bulbs are great for replacing halogen and incandescent bulbs as well. Learn more about LED PAR30 Bulbs here!

Do LED bulbs require maintenance after installed?

LED lighting is a fairly new form of lighting. While most LED lights have an average lifespan of 50,000 hours all forms of lighting require some maintenance to ensure the full life of the bulb. Since other components such as the fixture or the driver components can fail this may alter the color temperature of the build and cause the life of the bulb to shorten.
