What are Lithium Ion batteries?

This is the newest of the three batteries listed and is also known as a Li-Ion battery. These type of batteries are considered to be the strongest of the three. A fault of this battery, however, is that it is not able to take on too much heat when being used or recharged. If it does receive too much heat it can make the battery deteriorate faster.

Lithium Ion batteries features include:

  • It is lightweight
  • Is able to charge fast and has a long run time
  • Less susceptible to temperature changes
  • Life capacity of 300-500 charges
  • Is not harmful to the environment

What are NiMH batteries?

NiMH stands for nickel metal hyrdride. This battery was designed to be an improvement on the NiCd batteries. It is delicate to certain temperatures and should be stored and operated within 33-103 degrees Fahrenheit.

NiMH batteries features include:

  • It is lightweight
  • Has a longer run time than NiCd
  • Life capacity of 1000 or more charges
  • Lack of use can shorten life and storage capacity
  • Less toxic than NiCd batteries

What are NiCd batteries?

NiCd stands for Nickle Cadmium batteries. These are an old type of battery that are still being used today because of how inexpensive and tough they are.

NiCd batteries features include:

  • Can withstand damage from heat and impacts
  • Has a strong current flow
  • It is heavy
  • Needs to cool down before recharging
  • Life capacity of about 1000 charges
  • Contains toxins that are harmful to the environment

Why does voltage matter on a battery?

The voltages can range from 7 to 28 volts, the higher the voltage the more powerful the tool. The voltage can help you find the battery that is best suited for the work that you are doing. Depending on how long you are working the voltage will give you a good idea of the batteries running time.

  • Light workload: 7 volts – 15 volts
  • Medium workload: 12 volts – 18 volts
  • Heavy workload: 18 volts – 36 volts

What are Batteries and Chargers?

Rechargeable batteries are generally used for power tools to make them more portable and not require an electrical outlet during use. A charger is used to keep the rechargeable battery charged when it runs out of power. The chargers can either plug into an outlet or they have portable power cells that can charge for up to one hour. Our selection includes rechargeable batteries from brands such as:

  • DeWalt
  • Milwaukee
  • Makita and more

It is recommended that you charge at least two batteries before you start a big project so that you want have to wait for one battery to recharge and pause in the middle of your project.
