What are Mandrels used for?

Arbors, also known as mandrels, are tools used to grip or clamp materials to be drilled. Our collection of arbors come with pilot drills that are used for making holes in drywall or ceiling tiles.

What is a Chuck Key used for?

These wrench-like tools are made to assist with tightening and loosening the chucks jaws.

How do you change the chuck on a drill?

Before you begin changing your chuck be sure to check the owner’s manual to see what their procedure is for a chuck removal.

Here are some tips that you want to follow when you are changing your drill chuck:

  • Unplug or remove the battery from your drill
  • Remove the chuck screw that is located between the jaws of the chuck
  • The screw is usually reverse threaded

Once the screw is removed you will be able to change out your old chuck for a new one.

What are the different types of Chucks?

There are three common types of drill chucks:

  • Keyed Chuck – can use regular drill bits and requires a key to tighten or loosen the drill bit in place. If you lose the key, however, you won’t be able to modify the drill when you want.
  • Double-Sleeve Keyless Chuck – you have to use both of your hands to operate it, but it does not require a key and it can take regular drill bits.
  • Single-Sleeve Keyless Chuck – considered the most convenient of the three because you don’t need a key and you only need one hand to operate it.

What is a Drill Attachment used for?

Drill attachments are used with drills in order to get a specific job done depending of your application. This includes drill chucks which are specialized, self-centering, three-jaw chucks, and are used to hold drill bits or other rotary tools in place.
