2020 NEC Adoption Map

The National Fire Protection Agency publishes official updates to the National Electrical Code (NEC) every three years. As of June 1, 2021, eleven states enacted the 2020 NEC. Eleven more states have begun the process to update their current version of the NEC to the 2020 NEC. Check to see which version of the NEC code your state follows!

*Please note: The NFPA Standards Council issued the 2020 edition of the National Electrical Code on August 5, 2019. It’s effective date, when it became officially available for federal, state, county, and municipal governmental entities to update electrical installation regulations, was August 25, 2019.
